Block Building Cards - Totally Techniques

Last blog hop of the year for the Totally Techniques' Design Team, and it is a great one to end the year with - Block Building Cards.

My card is a New Year's card featuring the Light the Sky stamp set and the new Sale-a-Bration DSP - Flight and Airy, which will be available for free with a $90 order from 4 January.

My base card, following this tutorial, is Night of Navy card stock. The next layer is the Boho Blue sheet of the Flight and Airy DSP.

The top layer is a piece of Basic White card stock which has been ink blended to create a night sky. The colour in the photo is not really showing, but it is Boho Blue, Night of Navy, Starry Sky, and Gorgeous Grape,

On top of this I have stamped some of the fireworks images from the stamp set with Versamark ink and added silver and gold embossing powder before heat setting.

For the Building Blocks I cut out the number 2024 from Silver Foil cardstock. The letters are the retired alphabet set, Alphabet a la Mode. There is a new set of alphabet dies coming in the new mini catalogue starting 4 January 2024, but I haven't got them yet.

I finished off by stamping the sentiment on the front and heat embossing with Silver embossing powder. I really liked how this card turned out, how about you?

The last chance list is out, and the current mini catalogue ends on 3 January 2024, so make sure to place your order now, if there is anything you would like. Some of it is 60% off!!!

And don't forget we have online exclusive products, these are available while supplies last, so if there is something you really want - don't delay getting it.

If you are in Australia and would like to join my team, you are more than welcome and were currently have a great special.

Pinwheel Card - Fancy Fold

It's already November and time for another hop with the Fancy Folds Design Team. This time we are doing a Pinwheel card. There are a few versions of pinwheel cards around, and some are bigger box cards. This fold is not so much a card fold as a design element fold as in the pinwheel is attached to the front of the card. This tutorial from Karen Titus is easy to follow.

We are halfway through November, and I am yet to start my Christmas cards, so I thought this card was a good opportunity to get started.

I don't have any of the current Christmas Designer Series Papers from Stampin' Up! They are on their way, but not here yet, so I went through my stash to see what I could find.

I found a more or less unused packet of Celebrate Everything DSP from last year's holiday mini. It was a host packet with 48 sheets with a pattern for every celebration, Christmas, New Years, Halloween etc.

The paper I chose has a directional pattern on one side, so is a bit tricky to use for a card like this as no one wants trees that are lying down. However, as you cut the four corner squares off, I decided to use these, so cut them in half diagonally and glued them on to give me upright trees on the front of the card.

I stamped the rhino image from the Festive and Fun stamp set and coloured it in with my Blends. I used both light and dark of Granny Apple Green, Poppy Parade, Daffodil Delight, Pool Party, Bubble Bath, and Smoky Slate.

I matted my stamped image on Real Red card stock before adding it on the inside of the pinwheel.

I added my pinwheel on a mat of Read Red and then on a bigger mat of Basic White before matting on a Real Red card base.

I stamped the little bird in the bottom corner of my bigger white mat and also added a greeting.

Inside I added a Basic White mat and stamped and coloured the giraffe image. This was the image I originally wanted to use of the front but it was too big for the pinwheel.

A fun and quick little card and my Christmas cards are now underway.

Let me know if you give this fold a try.

Corner Box Card - Fancy Fold

It is time for another fancy fold, this one is super easy and a card you can put together in less than half an hour.

The fold is a Corner Box card. Not sure where the corner part of the name comes from, as to me it is basically just a box card. We used the video by 'Creating with Kristina' for inspiration.

I haven't bought any of the Christmas DSP yet, so I looked through my current papers and found the Stargazing paper which I had not even opened yet. It is absolutely beautiful with galaxy patterns and planets.

I started with a 6" x 8 1/4" piece of Basic Black cardstock. As I am in Australia and using A4 paper our cardstock in not 8 1/2" wide but only 8 1/4" wide so instead of scoring at every 2 1/8" as Kristina does in her video. I scored at every 2 1/16" to get 4 even panels. I then cut 3 DSP panels to about 1 7/8 x 5 7/8" to fit with only a small border and then a Basic White panel to add a message I adhered all these with Tombow Multipurpose Liquid Glue

I then cut a 1" strip of black cardstock and scored it down the middle and used this to close up the card, so make it into a 'box' which can still fold flat as a card.

I stamped the astronaut from the Reach for the Stars stamp set in Berry Burst ink on Basic White card stock. I used a Blender Pen to drag a bit of the ink into the image to soften up the lines and add a bit more colour to the image without having to colour the whole thing.

I then cut out the image with the matching die from the Reach for the Stars dies

I cut out a few of the planets from the DSP and added these to my 'front' panels.

I stamped my greeting with Memento Black ink on Basic White and added the 'bubble' stamp in Berry Burst and cut it out with one of the circles from the die set. I also cut out 2 1" circles from basic black cardstock to use to adhere my greeting circle to the center front of the card.

You score the circles in half and then adhere them on each side of the center score line of the card with score lines butting up to the card score line. Then you adhere the greeting circle or other focal piece to these two circles. This makes the card able to fold flat but makes the focal point 'pop out' when you stand the card up open.

I didn't have any of the Holographic paper from the suite, but I had some old, retired stuff that I cut out some stars from and that was it.

Super cute card which can be done in about half an hour.

Hope you give it a try. Let me know if you do by leaving a comment below.

Bordered Sentiments - Totally Technique blog hop

I can't believe it is almost Christmas!

And the card today is officially my first Christmas card of the year. I better get a move on if I am to send any Christmas cards this year.

The technique for today's blog hop is bordered sentiments. This is a very simple technique which basically means that you border your sentiment and stamp on both sides of it.

First, I stamped my Season's Greetings sentiment from the Christmas Classics stamp set in Cherry Cobbler. I then used my ruler and drew a line border above and below my sentiment. I drew this line with the Basic Black Journal pen.

I then cut a strip of Masking paper that fit in between my borders and covered up my sentiment.

I then stamped the pine stamp above the sentiment, so it looks like it is coming up behind the sentiment and then turned the stamp 180 degrees and stamped it below, so it again looks like it is coming out from behind. Before removing the masking paper, I flicked some ink onto the card stock with an Early Espresso Stampin' Write Marker.

After removing the masking paper, I added a thin strip of Cherry Cobbler cardstock to the left of my panel and then stuck the whole panel to a Basic White base card.

I could have stopped here with a very simple card, but I wanted to add a bit more. I stamped the little holly leaf in Mossy Meadow ink on a scrap of white. I gave it some colour with a dark Old Olive and a light Mossy Meadow Stampin' Blend. I also stamped the holly berries in Cherry Cobbler. I do not yet have the dies for this set, so I fussy cut the holly leaf and the berries and added them to the front of the card with some dimensionals and glue. I also added a little twine bow.

Finally, I added a bit of Wink of Stella and my card was done.

I hope you give this technique a go, it is very simple, and you can do it with anything.

Reverse Masking - Totally Techniques Blog Hop

It's Technique time!

This month's Totally Techniques' Blog Hop is Reverse Masking technique. For this one, I had an idea what I wanted to do, but I still struggled a bit with the execution.

However, I am pretty happy with the end result.

I knew I wanted to use the Crafting With You bundle, which i only just received and hadn't opened yet.

Here is my card:

I wanted to use the canvas stamp and die, but also needed to the do the reverse stamping. So, I cut out the canvas from copy paper and then cut in the inside of the canvas out to use as my reverse mask. I stamped the full canvas and easel in Copper Clay on Basic White. I then used my copy paper canvas and ink-blended the cut-out part of the canvas with Moody Mauve ink.

I then stamped the greeting with Early Espresso ink on top of the ink-blending, before cutting the easel and canvas out with the coordinating die.

I had already cut my piece of patterned paper from the Earthen Elegance Designer Series Paper but thought my easel and canvas kind of got lost on the paper, so I cut a circle from Boho Blue cardstock to layer behind and lift it up a bit. I also used Boho Blue as my card base.

I stamped the paintbrush image twice, in Boho Blue and Moody Mauve ink.

I stamped the basket with Early Espresso and coloured it with a Blend.

Finally, I added some 2023-2025 In Colour Dots for a bit of bling.

This technique is super easy and versatile, and you can use it for anything you wish. Make sure to hop around and see what the rest of the Design Team came up with ðŸ˜„

Pop up fun fold card - Fancy Fold blog hop

It is time for another fancy fold, and for this month it is a surprise fold 😊

It appears to be a newish fold and on the tutorial we went by this month, see Cheryl's video and examples here

This card has quite the impact, but is super easy and you can make it as fancy as you like.

You start with the 12" x 6" inch piece of card stock and score it at the long edge at 2", 4", 6", and 8" inches. then you turn and cut between the 2" and the 6" inch scores at 1,5" and at 4,5".

I didn't have a 12" piece of card stock in the colour i wanted, so i still scored at 2, 4, 6 and 8, but then cut at 9" and added an extra 4" piece of cardstock at the 8" mark to extend it. I used Night of Navy for my card base.

I cut strips from 2 different designs of the Countryside Inn Designer Series Paper to decorate the folding panels. at the middle pop-out panels i added Basic White card stock. One I left blank the other i stamped with the group of flowers from the Sentimental Park stamp set in Night of Navy and Balmy Blue ink.

For the card at the back i cut a piece of Baisc White card stock at 7.5" x 5 3/4" and folded in half. First I stamped the YOU from the Sentimental Park stamp set in Night of Navy ink before I ran the front panel through the cross hatch embossing folder from the set of Basic 3D Embossing Folders.

On the inside I stamped the group of flowers in Night of Navy and Balmy Blue.

I stamped the big flower a couple of times in Night of Navy and Balmy Blue on a scrap piece of white and cut out with the Sentimental Park dies. I also cut several the leaves and flower stem out of Night of Navy and cut some small flowers in Balmy Blue and Night of Navy. I layered a couple of the small flowers and added this with the stamped flowers and the cut leaves and stem to the embossed front.

For the front focal point i cut a decorated label in Night of Navy and a basic label from Basic White. I stamped the sentiment on the white and adhered it to the Night of Navy label piece. I then added some small cut Balmy Blue flowers on top and behind some of the flowers on the label. I then adhered the label to the front panel.

This was a really easy card to do and it doesn't require much extra decoration if you added some of our pretty Designer Series Papers. But you can go all out with this one if you choose - there are no limits.

Explosion card - Fancy Fold blog hop

And here is post 2 for today.

The Fancy Fold this month is an explosion card. There are many different types and versions of explosion cards and this is one I haven't tried before.

We used this tutorial from Tami White, and it is easy to follow with a downloadable pdf with measurements and instructions.

I decided to use the Cheerful Daisies bundle and the Fresh as a Daisy Designer Series Paper.

For my base card I chose the Pebbled Path. I am really liking this colour and it pairs so well with the Fresh as a Daisy paper. It is so far my favourite of the new In-Colours. I often don't even start using the new In-Colours until half way through their second year, when they are getting close to retiring, so I am glad I discovered it already now.

I used the Boho Blue piece with the white daisies on it for the front and inside panels. It was probably a bit wasted on the inside panels, as you hardly see it when you add in the folding/explosion mechanism, but that is how it goes sometimes. I used another Boho Blue piece for the folding/explosion part. For the center panel I matted with Pebbled Path under my Basic White square.

For my square I first stamped the medium daisy in second generation Boho Blue ink. And then I did second generation Copper Clay for the center which is the same daisy center colour on the dsp.

I stamped the greeting in Versamark and heat embossed with silver embossing powder. Finally, I added some Pebbled Path splatter with my Stampin' Write marker.

I did the bellyband in Pebbled Path and added a Basic White label from the Cheerful Daisies dies. I cut a couple of the bigger daisies from Basic White card stock and added some Boho Blue ink with a sponge dauber and daubed some Copper Clay ink in the center and layered them. I finished it off with some Wink of Stella on the top layer petals and the center.

I adhered a couple of the leaves to the back and adhered it all to the label with a dimensional.

I am really liking this card and the fold is fun and easy. Depending on the amount of stamping and die cutting for the inside center and the belly band decorations this card can be put together in 30 mins - love quick cards.

Floating Elements - Totally Techniques Blog Hop

It's already almost the end of August and I have 2 posts for you today, this is the first one.

For this month's Totally Techniques' Blog Hop we are doing the floating elements. This is a technique that has been around for a long time, but I have never tried it, and I knew exactly what I wanted to do.

The floating element technique is really easy, and you can choose how elaborate you want it depending on your strips, colours and shapes.

First you cut strips in either the same or varying width. I cut all my strips at 1/4' as my final shape was relatively small. I chose 3 colours, but you can do it all in the same colour or choose a rainbow, you can do whatevere you like.

I chose Blueberry Bushel, Lemon Lime Twist and Berry Burst. It is a fun and bright colour combination, just want I wanted to go with my Basic Black card base, embossing and twine.

You then add your strips to a piece of Acetate. I adhered them with a little bit of Tombow Multipurpose Liquid glue. Make sure you don't use too much as it will smear on the Acetate and can be difficult to get off without scratching the Acetate. I adhered my strips relatively close together to get as many on as possible.

I then cut my shape from the Acetate with the adhered strips. I used the triple Balloon die from the Beautiful Balloons dies. This is a die that some people find a bit difficult to use as it doesn't have a matching stamp, but it is great for this technique.

I stamped a piece of Basic White with one of the little stamps and used the same 3 colours of ink as I had used for the card stock strips.

At the bottom of the piece of white I stamped the 'Celebration' in Versamark and heat embossed it in black. To do this I covered the 'I think it's time for a' with a piece of tape before inking up and then removed the tape before stamping to only get the bottom half of the stamp.

I added strips of dimensionals on the back under the strips and doubled them up to raise the cut shape up higher and give a real floating effect. I stamped the top half of the greeting on a strip of Lemon Lime Twist with Versamark and heat embossed black embossing powder. I then added dimensionals and adhered to the balloon shape. I tied some black twine to the bottom of the 3 balloons in the die cut and tied them together in a knot at the bottom.

I added a strip of Lemon Lime Twist and a strip of Berry Burst to the edge of the white piece before adhering it to the black card base.

I am quite happy with how this turned out and hope you give it a go, it is a great, easy and very effectful technique that you can do in all sorts of colour combinations and shapes.
